Brighton, CO

**UPDATE: There is now a waitlist for the third round of the City’s business rent and mortgage assistant grant. This is due to the allocated funds for this grant being fully awarded. Individuals on the waitlist will be prioritized in the event of additional funding. **

With funding from Adams County through the federal CARES Act, the City of Brighton in conjunction with the Brighton Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) has reopened applications for their grant program to assist small businesses and nonprofits with paying their rent or mortgage. This third round of emergency assistance provides $5,000 in rent or mortgage assistance to eligible businesses and nonprofits. These grant funds are stackable with other resources obtained by the business applicant, but funds can’t be used for the same purpose that other programs have already covered. Applicants who received funding in the second round of Brighton Business Rent and Mortgage Assistance (launched and awarded in November) are not eligible for this third round.

Applicants will be funded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Businesses must have 50 or fewer employees to be eligible. Nonprofits are eligible to apply. New applications must include:

  • A complete online application
  • Business Form W-9
  • A copy of state-issued identification verifying legal residency in the United States (i.e. unrestricted driver’s license, U.S. passport or tribal document)
  • A copy of the business’ current lease or mortgage statement
  • A narrative clearly demonstrating the need for grant assistance
  • Business must be current on city sales tax or be on an active payment plan
  • Business must have a current city license issued by the Finance Department
  • Business must be registered and in good standing with the Colorado Secretary of State

New applicants can apply with the above documents here: https://forms.gle/ZVF7KQKEZsu4mTGZ8[1]

If a business applied for and received funding in the first round of this program (back in May), they will be able to apply for additional funding without uploading as much information as before. Applicants who were awarded in the second round of this program (back in November) are not eligible. Returning applicants can apply here: https://forms.gle/CgC4Fvraudqk4VuH6[2]. This application is only for businesses that were approved when the grant first launched. Additional documentation may be requested if your lease has changed or expired during any of the months that you are requesting mortgage or rent assistance. An additional change to this program includes payment directly to the landlord or lender who owns the property.

Applications will be accepted until Dec. 14 by 11:59 p.m. MDT or until funding runs out. Additional applications will NOT be accepted after this date. Applications submitted by the deadline and subsequently approved should expect funds to be distributed within 7-10 business days of receiving funding approval notification by email. Approval emails can be expected within 7-10 business days of receiving a complete application online. All applicants will be emailed a copy of their responses upon submission. Additionally, all applicants must give the city authorization to audit and/or verify how these grant funds were used and additional documentation may be required after funds are disbursed.

The application for the Brighton Business Rental and Mortgage Assistance Grant can be found at the City of Brighton website under COVID-19 Resources: https://www.brightonco.gov/1503/COVID-19-Assistance[3].
